Whittier Filtration manufactures ion exchange softeners for special industrial applications like produced water softening (brine brought up along with the oil and gas extraction) and brine softening in chlor alkali production.

For produced water softening, Whittier Filtration manufactures weak acid cation (WAC) primary and polishing softeners and strong acid cation (SAC) series softeners for hardness reduction. Hardness reduction makes this water suitable for steam generation in steam flood applications. SAC's effluents are 1 ppm of hardness; while WAC's effluent are less than 0.5 ppm and less than 0.2 ppm in hardness if primary and polishing softeners are used.

Although a non-core business, Whittier Filtration also manufactures solutions for other ion exchange processes like treatment of water to remove nitrate and arsenic.
